2002 Gujarat riots : Clean chit to Narendra Modi by Nanavati-Mehta enquiry commission

Today Justice Nanavati – Mehta enquiry commission report gives clean chit to Narendra Modi in 27 February 2002 Gujarat riots. In the incident S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express was set on fire.

Commission observed burning train was a pre-planned conspiracy but riots which took place in the state later were not planned. Modi had no intention to destroy evidence of burnt S-6 coach. No instructions of inaction on rioting elements was issued during meeting at Modi’s house of top officials. 3 cabinet ministers including then home minister Haren Pandya, Bharat Barot and Ashok Bhatt were also given a clean chit in the case. 3 IPS officers Sanjiv Bhatt, Shrikumar and rahul Sharma had a negative role in the case.

Godhra riots episode was unplanned and non-political. Transfer of officials happened in natural order. Accused involved in burning of train had background with Congress party.

Role of Jan Sangharsh Manch and Testa Setlwad run NGO was found to be suspicious.
