2008 Ahmedabad Serial Blasts: Gujarat ATS arrests accused Nasir Rangrej from Karnataka

Gujarat ATS late on Sunday night arrested Nasir Rangrej, an absconder in the July 2008 Ahmedabad serial blast from Karnataka. ATS sources said Rangrej, who is native of Karnataka, was allegedly in touch with SIMI terror suspects before the blast and privy to the planning of serial blasts which were to be executed across the country by terrorists of Indian Mujahideen. ATS officials said Rangrej had also attended the terror training camp at Wagamon in Karnataka and was actively involved in the planning of Ahmedabad serial blasts which took place in the evening of July 26 2008.

According to ATS sources, in a series of about 21 blasts more than 53 innocent people were killed and over 200 were injured.Gujarat police have arrested over 70 accused in the case from different parts of the country while 16, including key accused Abdul Subhan alias Taukeer are still on the run. It is noteworthy that Alamzeb Afridi, a key accused in Ahmedabad serial blast was arrested from Bangaluru earlier these year. According to police sources Afridi was on the run for eight years before being nabbed. ATS officials said Rangrej too was on the run and after getting specific tip off about his presence in Karnataka, they nabbed him last night.
