At least 27 people have died as torrential rains battered western Gujarat—particularly in Palitana and Jesar, where a staggering 867 mm (34″) fell in just 24 hours. In Botad district, a passenger van was swept away, killing 2 people and leaving 5 missing.The southwest monsoon has now covered the entirety of Gujarat, bringing more storms and flash flood risk over the next few days. Dangs recorded the most rain today — 7.17″ (182 mm) — followed by Vaghai (5.16″) and Subir (4.65″).

Widespread flooding, landslides (in Gandhinagar) and urban damage including cave-ins in Vadodara have been reported. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a high-level meeting with collectors, deploying NDRF/SDRF teams, relocating 259 people and rescuing 139. School holidays declared in affected regions; many schools in Botad and Saurashtra are closed. Evacuation orders, safety measures for fishermen, and emergency protocols have been activated in Saurashtra, Kutch, South Gujarat, and other zones.
