Veteran Bollywood actor Asrani (full name Govardhan Asrani) passed away on 20 October 2025, at the age of 84, in Mumbai. Asrani died at around 3:30 pm on 20 October 2025, following complications from fluid accumulation in his lungs. He was admitted to the hospital a few days earlier for breathing-related issues. His last rites were held at the Santacruz crematorium in Mumbai, per his and his family’s wishes. Born 1 January 1941 (or sometimes reported 1940) in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Actor had a six-decade career, appearing in over 300 films in Hindi and Gujarati cinema. He became especially loved for his comedic roles and memorable characters — for example, his iconic jailer role in the film Sholay (1975). Many in the film industry and fans expressed deep sorrow at his passing, remembering the laughter and joy he brought. His manager explained that the funeral was held swiftly in accordance with his wish to keep things simple and private.
