Ahmedabad: In a major breakthrough for national security, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has obtained 12 days’ remand of two alleged ISIS spies arrested earlier this week. The suspects were reportedly operating as active intelligence gatherers for the ISIS terrorist network, focusing on sensitive locations in Gujarat and other parts of India.
According to ATS officials, both the accused were found engaging in activities linked to espionage, radicalization efforts, and assisting the terror outfit by collecting strategic information. Their arrest is considered a significant step toward dismantling sleeper cells and preventing possible terror-linked activities in the region.
The two operatives were allegedly in contact with ISIS handlers through encrypted communication channels.Preliminary evidence suggests they had been gathering photographs, videos, and GPS-based information of security establishments, crowded public places, and transportation hubs.
ATS officials believe the pair may have been planning to help coordinate recruitment or logistical support for ISIS modules in India.
The ATS sought extended custodial interrogation to Trace local and interstate networks connected to the accused.Analyze digital devices, including mobile phones, laptops, and storage devices recovered during the raid.Identify any additional suspects involved in the espionage ring.Investigate potential terror plots and determine whether the operatives had planned attacks in Gujarat or neighbouring states.
Security agencies are also verifying whether the accused had established financial channels or received funds from abroad. Their travel history, social media footprints, and past associations are being thoroughly examined.
Officials stated that more arrests are likely as the interrogation progresses and the digital forensic analysis continues.
The case highlights the continuing efforts of Gujarat ATS to combat radicalization and neutralize terror-linked activities across the state.
