Preparations for the Umreth Assembly by-election in Gujarat are gaining momentum, with the Bharatiya Janata Party naming Harshad Parmar as its candidate and accelerating its ground-level campaign efforts ahead of voting.
The bypoll became necessary after the passing of sitting BJP MLA Govind Parmar on March 6 following an illness, which left the seat vacant.
Govind Parmar had been representing the constituency since 2017 and secured re-election in 2022. The party has now fielded his son, Harshad Parmar, as its nominee.
According to party insiders, the choice reflects the family’s strong local presence and the goodwill built by the late MLA among voters in the constituency.
