Allahabad HC serves notice to Modi for violating EC norms in LS polls

Allahabad High Court on petition challenging his election by Congress’s Lok Sabha contest against Narendra Modi from Varanasi for leaving columns related to his wife as blank.  Ajay Rai alleged that Modi violated SC’s directions by leaving columns related to his wife blank.  Justice VK Shukla, while passing the order on the election petition of Congress leader Ajay Rai, has scheduled hearing on September 5.

Rai’s affidavit states that Modi had left blank columns relating to his wife Jashodaben’s PAN card details and her income, which violated SC directions. Rai has also alleged that despite of EC’s spending limit of Rs 70 lakh during electioneering, crores of rupees were spent during Modi’s campaign. Tshirts and caps bearing Modi’s name and photo were distributed among people on a large scale which was in violation of the model code of conduct. Rai, who is an MLA from Pindra assembly of Varanasi district, remained third in the LS election wherein he lost his deposit.Modi, won against Arvind Kejriwal of AAP by a massive margin of nearly 3.71 lakh votes. After becoming Prime Minister, Modi  resigned from the Vadodara seat and retaining Varanasi. Modi won Vadodara seat with a margin of 5.70 lakh votes.
