The Launch of the Book ‘Know Yourself’ With a revolutionary objective to break the long-standing lack of understanding, hesitation, and silence surrounding sex education in society, a special book launch event and panel discussion organized by ZCAD Group was held in Ahmedabad. In this unique program organized at the J.B. Auditorium of the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), the dignified launch of the book ‘Know Yourself (Sexual Knowledge For You)’, written by Professor Dr. Bhadrayu Vachhrajani, a leading scholar in the field of sex education across India, was successfully accomplished. In this event organized under the theme ‘Sex Education: Not Silence’, the book’s author Dr. Bhadrayu Vachhrajani, senior obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Mitali Vasavada, well-known counselor, therapist, and psychologist from Surat Rashmi Jha, and associate professor from Ahmedabad Dr. Margi Hathi were present and praised this monumental effort to bring about a positive transformation in society.
The panel discussion was conducted by Tejal Vasavada as the Master of Ceremonies. Speaking on the occasion, the author of the book and the founder Vice-Chancellor of Lokbharti University, Professor Dr. Bhadrayu Vachhrajani, placed special emphasis on the aspects of education and social awareness. Having enjoyed a glorious career of 36 years in the field of education and having completed India’s very first Doctorate (Ph.D.) in the subject of sex education 38 years ago, Dr. Bhadrayu stated, “If we can explain the science of the digestive and respiratory systems to our children without hesitation, then why should we feel ashamed to teach or explain the science of the reproductive system?” He further added that the reproductive system is a vital system that impacts a human being’s entire personality.
Therefore, with the aim of providing an accurate ‘self-learning material’ regarding sexuality for adolescents above 13 years, youth, parents, and teachers, he authored this book. Following the unprecedented success of more than 12 editions of his previously published book in Gujarati, ‘Tamari Jatne Olkho’, this enhanced book ‘Know Yourself’ has been specifically prepared for English medium readers to scientifically resolve the sexual confusions prevalent among today’s youth due to changing times and social media. The book logically describes the entire journey from being a child to becoming a father, complete with scientific diagrams.
The main attraction of the event, a special panel discussion, witnessed a very deep and meaningful dialogue between medical and mental health experts, anchored by Tejal Vasavada. In this dialogue, Ahmedabad’s renowned senior obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Mitali Vasavada, presenting the medical perspective, stated that in current times, parents must maintain a friendly relationship with their children and ask appropriate, rightful individuals or doctors about sexual health without any shame, to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
Extending this dialogue, Surat’s well-known counselor, therapist, and psychologist, Rashmi Jha, clarified from a mental health perspective that instead of suffering or feeling ashamed alone in internal dilemmas like sexual confusion or compulsion, one should seek the help of a professional counselor who can provide the right guidance and lead the individual on the right path. Throughout this panel discussion, Ahmedabad’s associate professor Dr. Margi Hathi beautifully played the role of the moderator, making the conversation highly engaging. At the conclusion of the event, the representatives of ZCAD Group reiterated their social commitment to supporting such public awareness forums.
