Ahmedabad, 17 May 2026: The ‘Gujarat Convention of Distributors’ was organized by the Federation of Gujarat FMCG Distributors Association Charitable Trust (FGDA) at the AMC Community Hall located in Prahladnagar, Ahmedabad. The event witnessed large-scale participation, with over 1,000 representatives from all 33 districts of the state, along with distributors from other states, attending the convention. Shri Sunil Singhi Ji, Chairman of the National Traders Welfare Board, Government of India, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, he stated, “Distributors are the backbone of the country’s economy.

The government is committed to the welfare and security of traders.” He also provided guidance on the challenges faced by the distribution system and their potential solutions. Furthermore, the organization’s President, Shri Arun Parikh, and General Secretary, Shri Shriram Bakshi, emphasized the need for reforms in the distribution system and the strengthening of the association.
During the convention, detailed discussions were held regarding the serious challenges currently confronting the FMCG distribution network. Leaders expressed deep concern, noting that rising operational costs combined with a limited margin of just 5% have made it difficult for distributors to survive, leading to the closure of over 700 distributors across the state. Additionally, due to the growing influence of e-commerce and quick commerce, the market share of traditional retail traders has dropped to just 70%.
As the remaining business diverts toward online platforms, more than 100,000 retail outlets have shut down. The event featured intensive brainstorming on critical issues such as closing retail outlets, challenges in category billing, and rate and pack differences, emphasizing the urgent need for timely solutions. Prominent business leaders and experts also shared their insights during this successful convention.
Reputed brands including Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Mahalaxmi, and Shree Hari Masala joined the event as official event partners. The entire initiative reflected a renewed enthusiasm and a strong sense of unity among the FMCG distributors of Gujarat, which will play a pivotal role in the future growth of this sector.
