DARTS tournaments at Karnavati Club, Ahmedabad, from June 23 to 28, 2026
Ahmedabad, June 4: In a significant boost to the growth of darts in India, Gujarat will host two prestigious darts qualifier tournaments for the first time. The tournaments will be held at Karnavati Club, Ahmedabad, from June 23 to June 28, 2026, bringing together some of the country’s top darts players and emerging talents.

The initiative has been spearheaded by the Gujarat Darts Sports Council, which aims to popularize the sport across the state ahead of Gujarat’s ambitious plans to strengthen its sporting ecosystem in the lead-up to major international events.

Speaking about the development, Gujarat Darts Sports Council President Pramesh Modi and Rinju Zaveri highlighted the council’s efforts in building a strong foundation for the sport. They stated that the council has already trained over 1,000 school and college students and more than 500 senior citizens, making it one of India’s first professional state-of-the-art darts facilities.
The tournament is expected to attract more than 300 participants from across India, including players from Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. Registration for the event will remain open until June 16.

The competition will feature some of India’s leading darts players, including Nitin Kumar and Ankit Goenka, who are set to represent India at this year’s World Cup of Darts. India’s top-ranked female player, Mahi Bosmiya, will also compete with hopes of securing another international qualification spot.

With a total prize pool exceeding ₹4 lakh, the tournament promises intense competition. A special cash reward of ₹10 lakh has been announced for any player who successfully completes the rare and highly challenging nine-dart finish. Additionally, every successful 170 checkout during the event will earn a prize of ₹25,000.

The stakes are even higher for junior players, as the top four junior finishers will earn the opportunity to represent India at the World Championship in Gibraltar. In the senior category, one player will secure a place at the Asian Championship, which serves as a pathway to the World Championship.

Pramesh Modi emphasized that darts is among the most popular sports in several European countries, particularly in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. While the sport already enjoys popularity in cities such as Kolkata and Surat, the council now aims to expand its reach across Ahmedabad and the rest of Gujarat through awareness programs in schools, colleges, corporate offices, and public institutions.
He further noted that darts is recognized as one of the sports included in the upcoming World Police and Fire Games scheduled to be hosted in Ahmedabad. The sport is also being considered for future inclusion in the Commonwealth Games, reflecting its growing global stature.
Officials believe that the strategic, calculation-based nature of darts, combined with the development of focus and muscle memory, makes it an ideal sport for engaging young people and encouraging them to spend less time on mobile devices while participating in competitive physical activities.
The upcoming qualifiers mark a major milestone for Gujarat’s sporting landscape and could play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of Indian darts champions.
