Ahmedabad, April 24, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad, has issued a Yellow Alert for the city from April 25 until 8:30 AM on May 1, warning residents of rising temperatures and heatwave-like conditions over the next seven days.
According to IMD forecasts, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 42°C and 43°C, while the minimum temperature may stay between 26°C and 28°C. Authorities have cautioned that the heat intensity is likely to increase during this period.
To enhance public awareness, IMD has provided zone-wise temperature forecasts covering 7 zones and 24 wards across the city. Additionally, heat hotspot areas for the next three days have been identified based on expected peak temperatures.
A QR code-based system has also been introduced, enabling citizens to access real-time information about hotspot locations and area-wise maximum temperatures recorded between 1 PM and 5 PM.
In response to the rising heat, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has urged residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from extreme weather conditions.
Advisory: Precautions to Avoid Heat-related Illness
Citizens are advised to:
- Carry drinking water while stepping outdoors
- Stay hydrated with fluids like water, lemon juice, buttermilk, and coconut water
- Consume fresh fruits and vegetables
- Avoid spicy, high-protein, and stale food
- Limit intake of tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks
- Use umbrellas, hats, or scarves while outdoors
- Avoid going out between 12 PM and 4 PM
- Wear light-colored, loose cotton clothing
- Take frequent breaks and rest in cool places during work
- Pay special attention to children, elderly individuals, and pregnant women
Symptoms of Heatstroke
Health officials have warned about common signs of heat-related illnesses, including:
- Excessive sweating and fatigue
- Headache and dizziness
- Red, dry, and hot skin
- Muscle pain and weakness
- Nausea and vomiting
Residents experiencing these symptoms are advised to seek immediate medical attention. In case of emergency, citizens can dial 108 for ambulance services.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have assured that all necessary measures are in place to safeguard public health during the ongoing heatwave conditions.
