Today during Press Meet in Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Ahmedabad Director Ashish Nanda and IIMA Borad Chairman AM Naik said that they have raised the matter to Ministry of Human Resources Division over draft IIM bill by bringing out objections. IIMA hopeful of getting support from other IIMs in country. They said proposal of IIM Bill is quite different from IIM Bill.
IIMA is in favour of retaining its autonomy as per provisions in clauses 35 and 36 of the bill apparently grabbing away the powers vested with the board of governors.
The bill empowers the Centre powers to override the Board, which will need the approval of the HRD ministry before effecting changes in fee structure, salary, admission criteria and even scholarships and fellowships. The changes in draft bill would have much more effect added Nanda.
