Jind (Haryana): India marked a historic milestone in its journey towards sustainable transportation with the flagging off of the country’s first indigenous hydrogen-powered train on the Jind–Sonipat route in Haryana. The launch represents a major step in India’s efforts to adopt clean energy solutions while strengthening its railway infrastructure through homegrown innovation.

The hydrogen-powered train has been developed by Indian Railways as part of the nation’s broader vision of achieving environmentally friendly and future-ready transportation. Running on hydrogen fuel, the train is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions and contribute to India’s long-term clean mobility goals.
The project also reflects the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) by showcasing indigenous engineering capabilities and technological innovation. Officials described the achievement as a testament to the dedication and expertise of Indian Railways engineers and technicians who have worked towards making advanced green technology a reality.
Alongside the launch of the hydrogen train, several development projects were inaugurated to enhance clean mobility, road and rail connectivity, healthcare infrastructure, and cultural heritage preservation in Haryana. These initiatives are aimed at improving public services while promoting sustainable and inclusive development across the region.
The introduction of hydrogen-powered rail technology places India among a select group of countries investing in next-generation, zero-emission transportation systems. As the nation continues expanding its railway network, the adoption of hydrogen fuel is expected to play a significant role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting India’s climate commitments.
The flagging off of the indigenous hydrogen train is being viewed as a landmark achievement in India’s green mobility mission, reinforcing the country’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and modern infrastructure development.
