Mobile Banned in Vote Counting Centres for Ahmedabad Local Body Elections 2026; GS Malik issued notification

Ahead of the vote counting for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections, the city police has issued a strict public notification prohibiting the use and carrying of mobile phones and other communication devices at counting centres.

The order has been issued by Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the counting process.

As per the notification, the vote counting will take place on April 28, 2026, at designated centres including L.D. Engineering College, Navrangpura and Gujarat College (Commerce Department), Ellisbridge.

  • Ban on Mobile Devices:
    No individual will be allowed to carry cellular/mobile phones, cordless phones, wireless sets, or any communication devices داخل the counting centres, their परिसर, or within a 200-meter radius.
  • Vehicle Restrictions:
    Entry and parking of any vehicles within the counting centre परिसर and within a 200-meter radius has been strictly prohibited.
  • Ban on Flammable Items:
    Items such as matchboxes, lighters, gas lighters, or any inflammable or adhesive substances are not allowed inside or near the counting premises.

The restrictions will not apply to:

  • Law enforcement officials on duty
  • Security personnel deployed at counting centres
  • Election Commission-appointed observers
  • Authorized election staff performing official duties

These personnel are permitted to use communication devices strictly for official purposes.

Any violation of the order will attract action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, making offenders liable for punishment.

The Order will come into effect from 12:00 AM on April 28, 2026, and remain in force until the completion of the counting process.

Authorities have directed that the notification be widely publicized through social media platforms, newspapers, All India Radio, and Doordarshan, along with physical notices displayed at prominent locations.

The move aims to maintain law and order, prevent disruptions, and ensure transparency and security during the crucial counting day.
