Against promises of pension by Gujarat government led to over 5,000 primary, secondary, and higher secondary teachers to stage protests at Satyagrah Chhavni in Gandhinagar today. The government assured of pension schemes prior to 2022 assembly elections have not been implemented till now, claimed the teachers. Pension benefits were announced by the government in September 2022 after similar protests made by the teachers who were recruited in 2005. Though BJP government was formed in state, no benefits were given to the teachers.
Teachers representatives from Akhil Bhartiya Saikshanik Mahasangh Gujarat said, “Before the elections in 2022, the committee of 5 ministers had accepted pension demands of the teachers, but after the elections were over, no announcement was made by the government on the issue. Due to this injustice, the teachers are now protesting.”
Presently, 65,000 Gujarat education department employees hired before April 2005, awaiting pension benefits.
