Three Indians died while illegally crossing US border; boat overturned at San Diego

A tragic incident happened off the coast of San Diego, California, when a boat carrying migrants overturned. Three persons died in the incident including a 14-years-old boy from Gujarat India. His 10-years-old sister was also missing and presumed to be dead. Their parents were among the survivors. Father is presently in coma and mother is hospitalized. A small wooden panga boat, overturned shortly after sunrise approximately 35 miles north of the Mexico border. The U.S. Coast Guard suspended search operations late Monday after rescuing all except the missing girl.In connection with the incident, 5 persons have been charged. Two Mexican nationals arrested near the scene face charges of human smuggling resulting in death, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment. Three more defendants, also Mexican citizens, were arrested for illegally transporting migrants; 1 had been deported in 2023.

The Consulate General of India in San Francisco has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and is coordinating with local authorities to provide assistance to the victim family.
