Venezuela Rocked by Powerful Twin Earthquakes; Rescue Efforts Continue

Caracas, June 25, 2026: Venezuela is grappling with the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes that struck the country’s north-central region within seconds of each other, causing extensive damage and triggering large-scale rescue operations. The tremors, measured at magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, were centered west of the capital, Caracas, and were felt across several neighboring regions.

Buildings collapsed in parts of Caracas and nearby coastal areas as residents rushed into the streets in panic. Emergency teams worked through the night searching for survivors trapped beneath debris, while hospitals treated hundreds of injured people. Authorities have warned that casualty figures may increase as rescue operations continue.

The Venezuelan government has declared a state of emergency in the affected regions. Several public services, including transportation and educational institutions, were temporarily suspended to support relief efforts and ensure public safety. Power outages and communication disruptions were also reported in multiple areas.

Seismologists noted that the earthquakes occurred along an active tectonic zone where the Caribbean and South American plates interact. Numerous aftershocks have been recorded since the initial tremors, raising concerns about further structural damage.

International leaders and humanitarian organizations have expressed solidarity with Venezuela and offered assistance as emergency crews continue recovery and relief operations.
