Gandhiji’s first residence Kochrab Ashram of Ahmedabad completes century mark

Today, Kochrab Ashram completes a century of its inception in Ahmedabad city. Its a historical landmark and heritage place attached to the life of Father of Nation, Mahatama Gandhi. The Ashram was built in the year May 1915.

Presently, Ashram needs adequate maintenance by Government. It is learnt that government is paying only Rs 1.50 lakhs to Gujarat Vidyapith towards maintenance of histroric place like Kochrab Ashram.

Gandhiji’s batchmate of London studies Jivanlal Barrister gave his bungalow to Gandhiji on May 25 1915 officially. The Bungalow then was renamed as Kochrab Ashram. The Ashram is known as first residence of Gandhiji and has memories with many legendary personalities who met Gandhiji during his life span. After 2 months of short stay Gandhiji shifted to Gandhi Ashram.

In last 5 years no government official or ministers have visited this Ashram. Gandhians maintaining the Ashram are finding maintenance amount to be very inadequate.
