Gujarat CM met farmers affected by unseasonal rains; made estimate of damaged crop

Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendrabhai Patel, did meet farmers in the rain-affected regions of the Gir Somnath district (and nearby) to assess damage and offer assurances.

Patel visited villages in Gir Somnath and neighbouring Junagadh district to inspect crop damage caused by unseasonal heavy rainfall. Specifically, he visited Kadvasan village in Kodinar taluka of Gir Somnath and Panidra (Panidhra) village in Junagadh. He met with affected farmers, heard their concerns about crop losses (groundnut, soybean etc), and directed officials that the government stands with them. The state government reported that about 70% of the crop-damage survey was completed, with around 4,800 teams working across the impacted districts.

The rainfall has damaged crops in over 16,000 villages and across 249 talukas in Gujarat. For farmers in Gir-Somnath (for example one farmer in Bhuvatimbi village lost ~₹8 lakh of groundnut crop) the event marks serious livelihood risk. The visit is a signal from the government that it recognizes the crisis and is moving—but farmers are pressing for immediate relief rather than just promises. Patel has instructed that the crop-damage survey be completed quickly (within a few days) so that relief measures can be announced and disbursed.

The government has said a relief package will be announced soon, following completion of the survey. The move aims to ensure that the affected farmers in Gir Somnath and adjacent regions are supported with compensation, debt relief, or other aid.The visit and nnouncement are largely in response to unseasonal rains — the season has seen rainfall continuing into normally drier months, significantly damaging standing crops.

Despite the government’s efforts, many farmers are angry and distressed, some even protesting or demanding debt waivers. Precisely what relief will be offered (amounts, timelines) has not yet been fully detailed; it depends on the survey results which are still being processed.
