Surat, Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a wide range of development projects worth ₹18,800 crore in Surat, marking a significant boost to infrastructure, healthcare, industry, and urban development in South Gujarat.

The event was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, state ministers, and several dignitaries.

Among the major initiatives launched were projects worth over ₹12,000 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aimed at enhancing road connectivity and strengthening transportation infrastructure across the region.

The Energy and Petrochemicals Department also unveiled projects exceeding ₹4,950 crore, while the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) introduced development works worth ₹1,063 crore to support industrial growth and attract further investments.
In the healthcare sector, key projects included a 100-bed Sub-District Hospital, a 50-bed AYUSH Hospital, and a state-of-the-art 200-bed EICS Hospital in Surat, significantly expanding access to quality healthcare services.
Additionally, projects worth ₹107 crore under the Urban Development Department, ₹45 crore under the Roads and Buildings Department, and ₹28 crore under the Panchayat Department were launched to improve civic amenities and rural infrastructure.
The projects are expected to accelerate economic growth, improve public services, generate employment opportunities, and strengthen South Gujarat’s position as a major development hub.
Addressing the gathering, leaders emphasized that these initiatives will contribute significantly to the vision of a “Viksit Gujarat for a Viksit Bharat,” reinforcing the state’s role in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.
