Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary membership has been reinstated, days after the Supreme Court put on hold his conviction by Surat Sessions Court in a 2019 defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remarks.
A notification from the Lok Sabha secretariat read that Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a Lok Sabha member stood revoked.
Today Rahul Gandhi of Congress reached Parliament in ongoing Monsoon session. He received a grand welcome from several Opposition MPs while he entered the premises. The Gandhi scion offered his prayers in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

After hearing in Supreme Court in the Modi surname case, apex Court has stayed Rahul’s sentence. later Congress leaders comprising of a group of MPs led by Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary met Lok Sabha Speaker. Since then there were speculations that Rahul Gandhi’s membership would soon be restored. Today Rahul Gandhi got back the post of MP.Notification regarding Rahul Gandhi’s MP post said that the decision to disqualify Rahul Gandhi is withdrawn in view of August 4 verdictof Supreme Court. The notification, issued by order of Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh, said that Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 on March 24, 2023 has been postponed until further order of the court.
