Ahmedabad, July 26, 2026: Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service, the Rotary Club of Sabarmati and Rotary Club of Sabarmati Trust launched “Project Shield and Nourish”, a timely relief initiative to support vulnerable communities severely affected by the incessant monsoon rains that lashed Ahmedabad over the past three days.
Conceived by Rotarian Gunvant Shah, the project reached out to the city’s most vulnerable residents by distributing freshly prepared hot meals to nearly 200 underprivileged individuals and 50 UV-resistant plastic shelter sheets (13 ft x 15 ft) to families struggling to protect themselves from continuous rainfall. The relief activities were carried out at two of Ahmedabad’s most affected locations—under Chimanbhai Patel Bridge and Indira Basti, opposite Agora Mall—where volunteers worked tirelessly to provide immediate assistance to those in need.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhiraj Sharma, President of Rotary Club of Sabarmati, said, “When the rains fell hardest, Rotary Sabarmati stood with those who needed help the most. Our mission has always been to serve humanity, especially during times of crisis, and this initiative reflects that commitment.” Hitesh P. Shah, Secretary of Rotary Club of Sabarmati, added, “Rotary’s guiding principle of ‘Service Above Self’ comes alive through such initiatives.
We are grateful to every volunteer, donor, and member who came forward to make this relief effort meaningful and impactful.” The Rotary Club of Sabarmati expressed its sincere gratitude to all members, volunteers, well-wishers, and donors whose prompt support enabled the successful execution of the project.
